Yonex BG80 – control-oriented 200 m reel with direct feedback
The Yonex BG80 is one of the best-known performance badminton strings and is designed for players looking for precise control, fast response and a hard, clearly defined impact feel. Its 0.68 mm gauge combines performance with greater stability than ultra-thin competition strings.
The high-polymer nylon multifilament core with Vectran™ provides firm and direct feedback at contact. Its specially braided oval-shaped outer structure creates a lightly textured surface that supports accurate placement, sliced drops and controlled net play.
The 200-metre reel is particularly suitable for clubs, coaches, frequent players and professional stringing services. Depending on racket head size, stringing pattern, knotting method and the amount of string used, it will generally provide approximately 20 to 22 complete badminton racket restringings.
Playing feel and characteristics
The BG80 provides a hard and exceptionally direct playing response. Shuttle contact is clearly noticeable, helping technically skilled players control the direction, length and pace of their strokes accurately.
The string performs particularly well on controlled smashes, attacking clears and fast drives. Its strong repulsion supports powerful play without placing maximum speed entirely ahead of control.
The textured surface offers more shuttle grip than a very smooth string. This benefits drops, sliced shots, short placement and tight net exchanges. The BG80 is therefore suitable not only for pure attacking players but also for technical all-round and control-oriented players.
At 0.68 mm, the string provides solid durability for a performance model. It is more resistant than ultra-thin strings but remains more sensitive to repeated off-centre contact than a dedicated 0.70 mm durability string.

Important: The maximum permitted stringing tension of the badminton racket must always be observed. Damaged or sharp-edged grommets should be replaced before restringing because they can cause premature string failure.
Who should choose the Yonex BG80?
The BG80 is particularly suitable for advanced recreational players, club players and competitive players with sound technique. It works well for players who build points through controlled attacking strokes, accurate placement and varied changes of pace.
Attacking singles players benefit from its direct power transfer on clears and smashes. In doubles, the string supports fast drives, precise blocks and controlled net play.
The 200-metre reel is economical for clubs, coaches, frequent players and stringing services that regularly prepare multiple rackets with a high-quality control and performance string.
Players who prefer a soft and particularly comfortable string bed may be better served by a softer string. Those with very high string wear will receive more resistance from a thicker 0.70 mm option.
Our recommendation
We recommend the Yonex BG80 to players and stringers looking for a direct 0.68 mm string with excellent control, strong repulsion and a textured surface. It is a strong choice for technically demanding all-round and attacking badminton.
