Yonex Astrox 88D Tour Third Generation – a stiff attacking racket for the rear court

The Yonex Astrox 88D Tour Third Generation 4U/G5 combines a head-heavy balance with a stiff Ultra Slim Shaft. Made in Taiwan, this Yonex badminton racket is aimed at advanced club and tournament players who want to dictate play from the rear court with powerful smashes, clears and well-placed follow-up attacks.

Does the Astrox 88D Tour suit your game?

A good match for: technically confident players who enjoy taking the rear-court attacking role in doubles or mixed doubles. The Tour is particularly worth considering if you have a fast swing and prefer firm shaft feedback without choosing the Japanese-made Pro version.

Less suitable if: you want a flexible shaft or a head-light balance for particularly easy handling. For a medium-flex response, the 88D Game is the relevant comparison; if fast front-court play is your priority, the 88S Tour is also worth considering.

What sets the Astrox 88D Tour apart

Stiff shaft with 2G-Namd FLEX FORCE: The Ultra Slim Shaft combines this graphite material with HM Graphite. The material specification is designed for quick flex and recovery. Together with the stiff rating, the construction suits players who actively accelerate the racket and make consistent, well-timed contact.

Stability Weight Distribution and Power Assist Bumper: Additional weight along the sides of the frame is intended to stabilise the racket head during the swing. The bumper at the top of the frame uses tungsten-infused nylon. Both features complement the weight distribution designed for powerful rear-court attacks.

Prepared for consecutive attacks: The Rotational Generator System coordinates weight distribution at the handle end, frame and joint area. The isometric head, AERO+BOX profile and Energy Boost Cap Plus complement the construction. The frame is made from HM Graphite, CSR and Tungsten.

88D Tour, 88D Pro, 88D Game or 88S Tour?

The Astrox 88D Pro Third Generation is also stiff, but is made in Japan. It uses CFR rather than CSR in the frame and additionally features Ultra PE Fiber in the shaft. The Tour therefore offers a similar attacking orientation without being technically identical to the Pro.

The Astrox 88D Game Third Generation has a medium-flex shaft with 2G-NANOMESH NEO. It is the relevant comparison if you prefer a less stiff response for your rear-court attacks.

The Astrox 88S Tour Third Generation also has a stiff shaft, but is 5 mm shorter and places greater emphasis on front-court play. Explore further models in our Yonex Astrox badminton rackets range.
