Yonex Astrox 88 Play Third Generation – a versatile starting point with medium flex

The Yonex Astrox 88 Play Third Generation 4U/G5 combines a slightly head-heavy balance with a medium-flex shaft. This Yonex badminton racket in Black/Silver is aimed at beginners, recreational players and those starting out at club level who want a versatile racket with an attacking character.

Does the Astrox 88 Play suit your game?

A good match for: players who switch between clears, drops, drives and attacking shots during training and recreational play. The 88 Play is particularly worth considering if you prefer medium shaft flexibility and are not yet looking for a highly specialised racket for singles or doubles.

Less suitable if: you specifically want a highly flexible shaft, a head-light balance or the very direct feedback of a stiff tournament racket. The key is choosing the combination of balance and flexibility that suits your swing.

What sets the Astrox 88 Play apart

Medium-flex Slim Shaft: The slim shaft has a medium flex rating and, like the frame, is made from graphite. The 88 Play therefore offers an alternative to highly flexible beginner rackets and stiff attacking models.

Power Assist Bumper: This component at the top of the racket head uses tungsten-infused nylon. It places weight in that area to complement the attacking setup. The Rotational Generator System is designed to support transitions between consecutive shots.

Isometric head and AERO+BOX Frame: The head shape is designed to provide a generous hitting area. The frame profile combines aerodynamic and box-shaped sections, aiming to pair a solid impact feel with a quick swing.

Astrox 88 Play or 88D Game?

The Astrox 88D Game Third Generation also has medium shaft flexibility, but its shaft uses HM Graphite and 2G-NANOMESH NEO. It is made in Taiwan and has a different combination of frame materials. The difference is therefore not simply a stiffer shaft or a different paint finish.

The Play remains the entry-level version for recreational play and first club sessions. Consider your preferred playing feel and the material specification when choosing. Explore further models in our Yonex Astrox badminton rackets range.
