Find the right squash ball for beginners, recreational players, club players and experienced competitors. Speed and bounce have a major influence on rally length and the overall difficulty of the game.
Choose by: dot marking · bounce · playing level · Dunlop, Oliver and VICTOR
Brands in the range: Dunlop · Oliver · VICTOR
Squash balls mainly differ in speed and bounce. A faster ball bounces higher and remains in play more easily, producing longer rallies and giving players more time to move and prepare the racket.
Slower balls bounce less and require better technique, timing, hitting power and sufficient warming. A double yellow dot ball is therefore not automatically the right choice for every player.
| Marking | Typical playing characteristics | Often suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Blue dot | Fast with noticeably higher bounce | Beginners, first sessions and longer rallies |
| Red dot | Medium-fast with useful bounce | Recreational players with basic technique |
| Yellow dot | Slow with lower bounce | Advanced recreational and club players |
| Double yellow dot | Very slow with low bounce | Experienced players, intensive club and competitive play |
Many beginners immediately choose a double yellow dot ball because it is widely associated with competitive play. Without suitable technique and ball temperature, however, it bounces very little and rallies end unnecessarily quickly.
A faster ball remains reachable and allows more consecutive shots.
Higher bounce gives players more time to position, prepare and recover.
Technique and court movement are easier to develop when the ball stays alive.
Start with a faster, bouncier ball. Move to a slower version once rallies become longer and you can keep the ball consistently warm.
A squash ball develops its intended bounce after it has been warmed by repeated hitting. Slow balls in particular may initially feel hard and unresponsive.
Before starting the match, hit controlled shots against the wall and allow both players to strike the ball regularly so that it warms evenly.
| Situation | Effect | Useful solution |
|---|---|---|
| Ball is still cold | Low or inconsistent bounce | Warm the ball before play |
| Cold squash court | Ball loses temperature more quickly | Consider a faster ball |
| Very short rallies | A slow ball repeatedly cools down | Match the speed to the actual playing level |
A slightly faster ball supports longer drills and repeatable shot sequences.
Choose a ball that remains challenging while still producing tactical rallies.
Very slow balls suit experienced players who maintain temperature and play with consistent pace.
| Observation | Possible cause | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Rallies end after a few shots | Ball too slow or insufficiently warm | Warm it or try a faster version |
| Ball bounces excessively high | Ball too fast for the players | Choose a slower speed |
| Ball repeatedly cools during pauses | Playing pace is too low for the ball | Use a faster ball |
| Inconsistent bounce after warming | Ball may be worn or damaged | Inspect and replace if necessary |
Choose by weight, balance, frame shape and playing level.

It normally identifies a very slow ball with low bounce for experienced players who can keep it consistently warm.
Yes. Repeated hitting raises its temperature and develops the intended bounce, especially with slower balls.
It may still be cold, or the playing pace may not keep it warm. A faster ball is normally more suitable in this situation.
Yes, when a suitable compromise is chosen. A slightly faster ball generally produces more balanced rallies when playing levels differ.

Too bad, now we have to go back to the glass ball or read in the coffee grounds to understand our visitors ...
Why do we have to do that? Quite simply, you have forbidden us to watch Your steps on our site with Google Analytics. That sounds dramatically to You, we know. But look at it: we do not even know who YOU are, we just see that SOMEONE looks at our pages, how he/she does that, how long this SOMEONE lingers on the respective pages, etc. We do not know who You are, whether You are male or female, how old You are, how Your weight is - no idea. Nor do we pass this data on to Google, we don not have them not at all! Nevertheless, this data of SOMEONE will provide us with valuable information about our site, we want You to like everything here, that You feel good and - of course - buy our products ...
So we can see where there are problems. If many visitors leave our site during the purchase process while choosing the payment method, we know that something is wrong and can improve it. Sounds good, right? Thats good for You and good for us. So it´s a win-win situation. So let us accompany You on Your way through our store. Deal?
Great, you got it! Now we can work better on our offer again!
