What is a replacement grip?

A replacement grip is wrapped directly around the wooden handle of a badminton racket. The old grip is removed completely before the new grip is fitted.

Replacement grips are normally thicker and more padded than overgrips. They therefore have a greater effect on handle size, cushioning and comfort.

Choosing the right thickness and surface

A thicker replacement grip increases the handle size and normally provides more cushioning. A thinner model generally creates a more direct connection to the racket.

Tacky surfaces provide a more adhesive hold, dry grips feel less sticky and absorbent models are particularly useful when the hands become moist.

When should a replacement grip be changed?

• The surface has become smooth or slippery.
• The material is torn or beginning to loosen.
• The cushioning feels hard and compressed.
• The grip is heavily soiled or no longer absorbs moisture effectively.
• The handle no longer feels even.

How to fit a replacement grip

1. Remove the old grip completely.
2. Carefully remove adhesive residue from the handle.
3. Start at the bottom of the racket handle.
4. Wrap upwards with even tension and slight overlap.
5. Cut the upper end neatly and secure it with finishing tape.

The grip should lie flat without wrinkles. Uneven overlap will create an inconsistent handle thickness.

Check the length and pack size

Check the stated length, width and thickness before purchasing. Shorter grips may be ideal for badminton rackets but may not cover longer tennis or squash handles.

Also check whether the product contains one grip, a multipack, a club box or a reel.
