What badminton clothing do children need?

Junior badminton involves quick steps, changes of direction, jumps, overhead strokes and lunges. Clothing should therefore feel comfortable, lightweight and provide enough room for dynamic movement.

A sports shirt and shorts provide a practical foundation for school and regular training. Junior players may alternatively choose a sports skirt. A spare shirt and lightweight training wear are also useful for club matches and tournaments.

A junior badminton shirt should provide sufficient freedom around the shoulders, back and arms. Tight sleeves or an excessively short body may interfere with overhead strokes.

Shorts and skirts for children

Shorts and skirts need sufficient room around the hips and legs during quick steps, jumps and deep lunges. The waistband should remain secure without cutting in or slipping during play.

Training wear for children

Training jackets and long trousers are suitable for warming up, longer breaks, travelling to the sports hall and waiting between several games. They should fit comfortably over the playing outfit.

Choosing the correct children’s size

Children’s sizes are often based on body height. Actual fit may still differ between manufacturers, collections and individual cuts.

Age recommendations only provide rough guidance. Body height, product measurements and comparison with a well-fitting garment are more reliable.

Room to grow – without being too large

Children grow quickly, but sportswear should not be purchased much too large. Excessively long sleeves, wide trouser legs or a slipping waistband may interfere with play.

A small amount of growing room is practical as long as the clothing remains secure and does not interfere with quick movement.

Materials and performance features

Many children’s sports garments use lightweight synthetic fibres or functional blended fabrics. Depending on the design, they may manage moisture and dry more quickly than heavy cotton fabrics.

A broad size range, matching colours and longer availability are particularly important for junior teams.

Check required sizes and quantities early when placing larger club orders. Children within one team may require several different sizes.

• remove damp clothing from the bag after sport,
• follow the care label and washing temperature,
• turn printed shirts inside out where appropriate,
• empty all pockets before washing,
• close zips and hook-and-loop fasteners,
• avoid hot tumble drying unless permitted.
