When can a replacement insole be useful?

The insole forms the direct connection between the foot and the shoe. Depending on its material, thickness and shape, it can alter cushioning, heel hold, comfort and the amount of internal space.

Replacement may be useful when the original insole is worn or permanently compressed. A suitable insole may also help players seeking additional cushioning, a firmer shoe feel or a different underfoot response.

Additional cushioning

A more strongly padded insole may reduce harsh feedback during sudden stops, lunges and intensive matches.

A more secure shoe feel

A more structured or slightly thicker insole may hold the foot more firmly and reduce a small amount of excess internal volume.

Replacing a worn insole

A replacement may be appropriate when the original insole has lost its shape, padding or secure surface.

Important: An insole cannot correct a squash shoe that is clearly too short, too narrow or fundamentally the wrong shape. The basic fit of the shoe must remain suitable.

Replace the original insole or add a second layer?

In most cases, a removable original insole is replaced. Using two insoles requires considerably more internal height and width.

Suitable when the original insole is removable and the replacement covers the complete internal base of the shoe.

Add a second insole

Only suitable when sufficient internal height remains and the heel, instep and toes continue to fit comfortably and securely.

Avoid positioning the foot too high: A thick or double insole may reduce heel hold. This is particularly unsuitable during rapid changes of direction.

Choosing the correct insole size

Insoles may be supplied in individual shoe sizes or size ranges. Follow the information provided for the individual product.

Some models are designed to be trimmed, while others must not be altered. Only use the original insole as a cutting template when trimming is explicitly permitted.

Trim carefully: Remove only a small amount of material at first and check the fit repeatedly. An insole cut too small may move or leave gaps inside the shoe.

When should an insole be replaced?

  • the surface is heavily worn or damaged,
  • the padding is permanently compressed,
  • the insole no longer retains its original shape,
  • it slips or wrinkles inside the shoe,
  • the underfoot feel has become noticeably uneven.

Caring for your insoles

Remove damp, removable insoles after playing and allow them to dry at room temperature. Follow the cleaning instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Care tip: Direct heat, hot dryers and strong sunlight may affect foam materials, bonded sections and the shape of the insole.

Can an insole make an oversized squash shoe fit?
