Which badminton shoes are right for me?

Badminton places very different demands on footwear than running or general fitness training. Fast lateral movements, sudden stops, jumps and changes of direction require a grippy indoor outsole, lateral support and cushioning designed for court sports.

What to look for in badminton shoes

Choose badminton shoes by playing level

Beginners and occasional players

A comfortable all-round shoe with reliable grip, solid cushioning and secure support is a good starting point. An entry-level model does not need to be extremely light, but it should provide much better lateral support than a normal trainer or running shoe.

Club players

Regular players benefit from improved stability, better cushioning and a durable outsole. A balanced combination of comfort, mobility and support is usually the best choice.

Tournament and performance players

Ambitious players may choose either a particularly light and direct shoe or a more stable model with stronger cushioning. The shoe must continue to fit precisely during intensive play.

Lightweight or stable badminton shoes?

Lightweight shoes are ideal for players who value fast footwork and a direct court feel. More stable models usually provide additional support and cushioning and may therefore be preferable for intensive play, higher body weight or sensitive joints.

Which fit is right?

A badminton shoe should hold the heel securely and provide firm lateral support. Your toes should not touch the front of the shoe. At the same time, the foot should not slide inside the shoe, as this can cause blisters and reduce stability.

Do not rely solely on your normal everyday shoe size. Measure your foot length and compare it with the brand-specific information.

Badminton shoes for wide feet

Players with wider feet should not simply buy a narrow shoe in a larger size. This increases the length but does not necessarily provide more width. A model with a suitable last or a dedicated wide fit is the better solution.

• Yonex: Models marked Wide are designed for wider feet. Other Yonex models generally have a standard fit.
• Victor: Most models have a narrow to standard fit. The Victor A830 and Victor A170 are currently particularly suitable for wider feet.
• Babolat: Babolat shoes generally have a standard-width fit, but they are not a dedicated wide fit.

How do Yonex, Victor and Babolat shoes fit?

Depending on your foot shape, half a size larger may be useful with Yonex Aerus models. For the Yonex Subaxia GT, we often recommend half to one full size larger. With Babolat, choose the larger size when you are between two sizes.

When should badminton shoes be replaced?

The service life depends on playing frequency, body weight, movement style and court surface. The age of the shoe alone is not decisive. Regularly check the grip of the outsole, lateral stability and cushioning.

Replace the shoes when the outsole becomes smooth, the foot no longer feels securely supported or the cushioning noticeably deteriorates.
