Badminton shoe size guide – choose the right size and fit

The right size is essential for secure support, fast changes of direction and comfortable play. Do not rely only on your normal everyday shoe size. Your measured foot length, foot width and the fit of the individual model are more useful.

This guide includes size charts for Yonex, VICTOR and Babolat badminton shoes as well as practical advice for narrow and wide feet, half sizes and children’s shoes.

Important: A size chart provides useful guidance but cannot fully represent individual foot shape. Length, width, instep height and heel shape also affect the fit.

How to measure your foot correctly

Measure both feet while standing and wear the sports socks you intend to use when playing badminton.

1. Place paper against a wall

Place a sheet of paper on a firm floor directly against a straight wall.

2. Put your heel against the wall

Stand with your heel touching the wall and your entire foot on the paper.

3. Place weight on the foot

Measure while standing with your body weight normally distributed.

4. Mark the longest toe

Mark the furthest point reached by your longest toe.

5. Measure in centimetres

Measure the straight distance from the wall edge to the mark.

6. Compare both feet

Repeat the process for the other foot and use the longer measurement.

Measure in the afternoon: Feet may expand slightly during the day. An afternoon or evening measurement usually reflects the conditions during training more accurately.

Depending on the model, Yonex shoes are available in standard, standard-to-narrow and dedicated Wide fits. Wide models provide additional room in the forefoot.

Babolat badminton shoe size chart

Babolat shoes generally have a standard-width fit. Compared with similar Yonex or VICTOR shoes, they often tend to fit slightly smaller.

The plus signs shown for certain Babolat sizes correspond to the manufacturer’s size chart. When you are between sizes or prefer more toe room, the larger size is often the better choice.

Badminton shoes for wide feet

Do not simply buy a narrow shoe one or two sizes longer. This mainly increases the length and may not provide additional width. Choose a dedicated Wide model or a shoe with a suitable last.

Prefer models explicitly described as Wide or broad.

Toe width, instep height and midfoot shape all influence comfort.

Choosing children’s badminton shoes

Children’s feet grow and change quickly. Measure both feet regularly instead of automatically buying the next size after the previous pair.

Check What to look for
Toe area The toes should not touch the front and should be able to move naturally.
Heel The heel should not lift significantly during walking or side-to-side movement.
Growing room Allow a small reserve, but not enough for the foot to slide inside the shoe.
Width Side pressure indicates an unsuitable fit, not only insufficient length.
Regular checks Recheck the fit regularly during growth phases and frequent training.
Children’s badminton shoes: An excessively large shoe does not provide useful extra service life when the child lacks stability during quick stops and lateral movements.

Can insoles improve the fit?

A suitable insole can provide additional support, improve heel hold or slightly reduce excess volume. It cannot correct a shoe that is clearly too short, too narrow or fundamentally the wrong shape.

When adding an insole: Check whether the original insole should be removed and whether sufficient room remains around the toes and instep.

Frequently asked questions about badminton shoe sizes

Should badminton shoes be larger than everyday shoes?

Not as a general rule. Brands and models fit differently. Use your measured foot length and the model-specific fit information.

How much room should there be in front of the toes?

The toes should not touch the front during standing or quick stops. The shoe should not be so long that the foot slides forwards.

What should I do when my feet are different lengths?

Choose the size based on the longer foot. Use suitable lacing or an insole to secure the smaller foot when necessary.

Should I simply buy a larger size for wide feet?

No. A longer shoe is not automatically wider. Choose a dedicated Wide model or a suitable last.

Can an insole correct a shoe that is too large?

An insole can slightly improve support but cannot properly correct a shoe that is clearly too large, too long or the wrong shape.

How much growing room should children’s shoes have?

Allow a small reserve without heel lift or excessive movement inside the shoe. Buying several sizes too large is not recommended.
